Research with LoRaFlexSim
LoRaFlexSim provides a rich environment for exploring performance and adaptive strategies in LoRaWAN networks. The simulator reproduces LoRaWAN behaviours and extends them with features such as multichannel operation, device classes A/B/C, Over‑the‑Air Activation (OTAA), mobility models, Adaptive Data Rate (ADR) algorithms, per‑node energy accounting and interactive dashboards.
Possible research topics include:
- Reliability analysis – study packet delivery ratios, collision patterns and the impact of spreading factors and bandwidth on network performance.
- Energy optimisation – quantify the energy consumed in transmission, reception and idle states per node to prolong device lifetime.
- Adaptive Data Rate algorithms – evaluate and design ADR strategies (average, maximum, EXPLoRa‑AT, machine‑learning based) to optimise airtime and transmission power.
- Mobility and spatial distribution – simulate networks with mobile nodes using realistic movement models and analyse coverage and latency impacts.
- LoRaWAN extensions – experiment with dynamic channel allocation, duty‑cycle enforcement, multi‑hop relaying and new MAC protocols.
The research community is invited to build upon LoRaFlexSim and contribute new modules. The simulator’s architecture supports integration of machine learning and reinforcement learning techniques for intelligent resource management.
